Formerly divided into ten dilapidated bed-sits, this four-story London town house has been designed to accommodate a couple, one of whom is a serious cook, and their three children, as well as an interior design business and a video production company. Everything in the house is made to measure, on a scale that is in keeping with the period building. There are no out-of-bounds areas and the business of both partners are a house in the specially kitted-out basement. Old carpets were taken up and the original floorboards sanded and polished or painted.
The provision of storage was a high priority throughout the house, as was maximize Andy neutral light,. While open-plan living is popular, there are times when rooms need to be separated, and here, in the ground-floor living area, a pair of large sliding doors can close off the kitchen from the reception room. The workman-like kitchen is mixture of open shelves, stainless steel and rich mahogany. Sliding doors also separate the main bedroom and bathroom, which has a wall of mirror above the bath, increasingly the sense of space two-fold.
