This chalet which is designed by the architect is embedded into the side of a slope; it is providing a one-storey elevation upon the entry with long views to Nottawasaga Bay. The architect’s client wants a custom-designed contemporary chalet which is requiring a minimal maintenance and to be realized on a tight budget with condensed construction schedule. This emphasis on practically and economy led the architect to a single volume clad in board and baton with a low pitched, overhung metal proof design.
The architect achievement for this chalet is a simple black form in the snow-blanketed landscape. This stark is looked contrast to the winter terrain which is inverted inside; it is where the white walls and large window openings dissolve the interior into an abstraction with the pristine snow outside. A serene backdrop within a well-proportioned and a quiet space is provided by a modest interior design of concrete floors, sliding doors, a wood burning fireplace and a custom oak cabinetry which is combined with prefabricated cabinets.
