East Overview Reading Room House Building Architecture Design
House design called the Brick House is completed designed by the AZL architects. This living space is located in Gaochun, Jiangsu Province, China. Two houses design which covers area for about 580 square meters (Ye House) and 860 square meters (Wang House) are progressed in 2006-2008. This living space is asked by the famous poet in China, and he invested much time into the process and worked in cooperation with the architect itself.
House Design Architecture Concept
The house design is evolved from the interaction of two brick houses based on the local courtyard houses with the surrounding landscape. The totally covered facade, the terracotta bricks, are created by the local clay and it is designed with the local method, this terracotta is composing the structure and the houses facade. The skilled village construction workers of this terracotta bricks are familiar with the medium. They are able to facilitate the marriage of the traditional savoir-faire with the new and progressive design.
House Design Facade Concept
The facade of this living space is made up by the three different textures of brick skin. Between the bricks, an interlocking pattern is leaves the perforations and protruding the bricks cast shadow along the wall. The windows of this living spaces are punctuate the texture, while remaining the loyal to the structural logic, the brickwork along the edges of these portals further develops abstract geometric relations. This dwelling project is able to be built for the unusually low budget of 80 Euros per square meters, relying upon the local materials and the workers.
From the outside, this living spaces is a naturally bricks colored, and it has a texture of the bricks on its facade. Most of the wall of this living space is constructed by a brick. It is created a traditional overview; while a modern accent is exist because of their contemporary design itself. Inside of the living space is totally different from the outside; it is a white open space design. Inside this house, it is a large volume which designed by the architect.
