Luxury Home Design Review
SJB Architects have completed designed a modern and beautiful house design called the Shoreham House. This living space architecture design is located in Australia’s Mornington Peninsula, and precisely situated on a stunning site overlooking the Westernport Bay. By the architect, this residence is conceived as two pavilions sliding across the landscape, it is creating shelter, shade and relief from the unpredictable coastal weather patterns. The first pavilion is self-contained for an intimate getaway, while the second has been designed for extended family visits or fortunate guests.
A swimming pool terrace, alfresco dining space and the outdoor leisure zones are designed within the interstitial zones between the pavilions. To accommodate the needs of a large family, the project brief emphasized the flexible spaces. The open plan design contains the operable panels and it is dividing the joinery, so that the areas can be transformed depending on the requirements.
Taking on a flat and horizontal language, the slipped pavilions create two outdoor leisure zones on either side of the house, each of which has been designed to withstand the various climatic conditions. The northern corner features a lap pool that cuts into the hillside, with views through an internal courtyard to the Robert Boyle designed grounds and the bay. An internal courtyard is nestled between the living room and cabana, offering a protected outdoor dining area. For starry nights, a ‘fire pit’ has been created with extensive slabs of local stone seating, providing the ultimate rural escape.
Luxury Home Design Concept
The house design is a simple, low gesture nestled into the hillside, with only a spotted gum timber door indicating the entrance, establishing a strong sense of privacy. This use of local timber extends throughout, from the decking to the outdoor areas. This achievement is intended to weather over time to accentuate the natural colors of the landscape.
The Shoreham House is features raw and industrial materials which are deliberately robust to withstand the harsh coastal environment and family life; it is designed to create a sanctuary away from life in the city. Which is including the polished concrete flooring with the embedded river pebbles; a discerning palette of materials has been utilized, spotted gum cabinetry and feature columns, black granite bench top and the bluestone and black steel accents throughout.
With the three meter ceilings and floor to ceiling windows which showcase sweeping views of the terraced grounds from the rural creek bed to the Western Bay and beyond is created a sense of space and calm feeling.
