The Germain Hotel is designed by the professional architect LEMAYMICHAUD Architecture Design. This great hotel is located in an exceptional location in the heart of the downtown in Calgary, Canada. It is precisely located on the corner of 9th Avenue and The Center Street, just minutes from the Convention center and the Calgary’s various cultural institutions. This hotel is unlike the other Germain hotel. It is connected to the city’s network of the elevated pedestrian walkways, and it is actually directly opens to the 9th Avenue. A two story glass wall is featured in the lobby which is facing to the main commercial street. It is creating a unique vibrancy between the street and the hotel space.
The Germain Calgary Hotel is a part of a multipurpose complex, whose the original architecture building of its hotel has created a totally new landmark for the Calgary’s urban landscape. Which the project is located between the 8th and 9th Avenues, this project development is composed of the two building, the 12-story Germain Hotel and an 11-story office tower. Both of them are straddled by a two stories of spa which is topped by the tiered luxury condos with the terraces. The spectacular glimmering architecture which is light up the Calgary skyline is formed by the complex.
The materials of this hotel which are selected are intended to combine the ease and the comfort. The purpose of the architect is to create a welcoming environment with a flash innovation; it is explained by Viateur Michaud. The warmth of the hotel interior design is prefigured by the hotel’s exterior cladding of the prodema wood-laminate panels, where the wood is a dominant element which used inside the hotel. Beyond the impressive fenestration of the façade, the main entrance is a vibrant, active space where an immense glassed-in lounge open to the street takes up almost the entire lobby. The recycled wall is felt between the lobby and the front desk area. Both the texture and the acoustic properties are added by the shades of grey and black resembling shale. It is embodying the exceptional spirit of the place: luxury, serenity and innovation. Throughout the hotel, this spirit is also can be found there. From the mosaic floor in the bar to the LED lighting in the hallways and in the volcanic rock which is adorning the elevator core. In addition, the 90 wells are drilled to supply the hotel with enough geothermal energy to heat the water and some radiant floors. All rooms inside the hotel are equipped with the technological necessities of the modern traveler, such as the internet access and the flat screen television.
The main entrance of the Germain Calgary is might gives the Germain spirit signal, the evidence is the rooms which is provides the travelers with the true Germain experience, though it is varies from one hotel in the group to another, it is nonetheless the hotel group’s stamp signature. The bathroom is opened to the room at the Germain Montreal; it is a true innovation at the time, now it is widely copied by the competition. The personalized nature of the rooms in the Germain Toronto, the Germain Calgary offers an original sensory experience. The hotel rooms are evokes the space; it is inspired by the often spectacular scale of the Albertan landscape on the edge of the Rockies. The architect also designed the walk-in closet instead of a traditional one which is always too narrow to hold both luggage and purchases. However the bathroom is provides the biggest thrill. The architect wants the guest to feel fulfilled, so he completely reinvented the traditional hotel bathroom squeezed into the back of the room. The bathroom is occupies a space in the entire length of the room, from the door up to the outside wall.
By a multipurpose wooden wall which features the various shelves and the storage space as well two immense sliding doors, this large and comfortable space is separated from the room. When it is opened, it is creates an exceptionally large loft. The bathroom is bathed in the natural light, it is because the large window which is located in the shower. Although made from the frosted glass, this window is includes a two-inch horizontal band of a transparent glass.
