Designed by UNStudio, A Loft in New York. UNStudio Design for existing loft is located in Greenwich Village in Manhattan to explore the interaction between the gallery and living space. The main wall in the flow through the attic space, and together with the ceiling to create the conditions articulated hybrid in which the exhibition area to join the living area.
The history of this modern loft design: the collector and architect met several years ago when UNStudio involved in renovating and expanding the Wadsworth Atheneum. The project was never realized, but soon after collectors talk about the intention to have a house designed by his new friend, architect. Over the years, the couple regularly visit the site as possible to new homes in the suburbs of Hartford. Then, in a phone call to Amsterdam in the early spring of 2007 the collector announced he had bought space in the Manhattan apartment. Architect finally received a commission: not for the home, but to home for collectors and art and books.
Unifying Art and Urban Living
Design loft in downtown Manhattan mediate between art gallery and living space. Attic space that is characterized by challenging proportions: the length and width of the space, but also rather low. flowing gently curved wall was introduced to almost divide the main room into the space proportionally balanced.
Field of Light

Framing the view
The third element which architects have been added to this mix is the appreciation of the city which is expressed in the preparation of the display. Former windows in the south wall has been replaced by a full floor to ceiling glass panels that frame and expand the view interesting, more than a full glass balcony, into downtown Manhattan.
Materialization
Major walls and flow through the chamber ceiling, creating a hybrid condition in which the exhibition area merge into living areas, a mix of exhibition wall to the library shelves led lights on one side and the case is displayed on another. To activate the space uniform and smooth, partially double-glass fiber reinforced gypsum panels used curved.
