This loft building project is precisely located in the main area which is to be known as the commerce street arts district in Wichita, Kansas, USA. Previously this location is an early century warehouse building into a community of the dwellings, and the retail space which is compliments the local art community. As the project is being constructed, the main challenge is faced the architect. The architect is challenged by the creation of the seven residential units for this loft project, which all of the units is able to provide the natural light and consist of ventilation. Originally this building is used as a transfer point for the cargo between the locomotives and trucks. The existing structure has a large square floor plate with the limited opportunities for the apertures to the exterior.
As a professional architect, the El Dorado Inc. Has the solution which is based on the simple notion which the light can be borrowed both the horizontally and vertically. By understanding the constraints and opportunities of the site and the existing structure, the architect is approach which focuses on the four strategies: Adapting, Removing, Carving and Adding.
The interior design of this loft building is truly a warehouse construction. It is strengthened by the evidence which is appears almost in all of the loft area, such as the outer wall of the building, wall inside the bedroom, kitchen etc. Which the wall itself is constructed by a bricks without the cement covers. But in the same room, the bedroom for the example, not the entire wall is constructed by a bricks, the cement covers also appears here, creates the semi-modern and conventional architecture design.
