Simple Village Country House for Holiday in Cadaques Barcelona

Near the Cabo de Creus, an hour’s drive north of Barcelona, is the fishing village of Cadaques. The young couple who bought this old house were holidaying from France and decided it was the ideal place to return to.

The most appealing aspect of the house was the way in which it was built into hillside. It required no structural work, but all the services were renewed, and they were left with a blank canvas on which to add colour and texture.

Grey, blue, green and yellow colour washes were applied, and previous layers of paint were scraped back to expose past colour-schmes in their mottled variations, As it is a summer holiday home furnishings were kept simple and inexpensive.

Trestle tables, cotton ticking fabrics and market finds from all over Europe fit perfectly into the pretty, rustic interior. As there are no windows at the back of the house, it is cool and dimly lit – the perfect hot-weather retreat.
