contemporary wood house dining room ideas
Forest Lake Park Renovation by Finne Architects. Located on the site, a remote forested, about 25 miles north of Seattle, Northwest Contemporary-1950 houses have been renovated while retaining the spirit of the original house. With a vast new window and the monitor glass roof, renovated the house seems to be a glass pavilion in the woods.
Floor plans have been re-organized to create, light filled spacious Master Bedroom and Master Bath, with each space surrounded by glass and views to the forest. The main living and dining room has been slightly enlarged, and new roof monitor with high windows was added to bring the soft natural light to the entire space. Kitchen, has a counter in the new enlarged quartz and cast-glass, with windows continually expand directly to the counter level. Hemlock existing ceiling with exposed fir beams in the vicinity of half the house has been retained, and new pine ceiling has been added to the rest of the house. Existing terrazzo floor has been re-done, with new areas added in a complementary color terrazzo.
Sustainable house design practices are an integral part of the project from scratch. Radiant heating has created a terrazzo floor even a heat source with maximum energy efficiency. High clerestory windows bring natural light deep into the home and the motor operator allows for ventilation during the summer months. Many green materials (such as resin panels, counter-liter, linoleum , low VOC paint, and sustainable wood products) used in this project. But above all, it is a fact renovation itself that is inherently sustainable and captures all the energy manifestation of the original 1950′s house, which has now been given fresh life. The intense expertise and details of the renovation also speaks to a principle of very important sustainability : building a well and it will last for years!
Sustainable design not only creates laundry-list of green materials, but creating a form of building and construction survive in accordance with the long life cycle, low energy consumption materials.
