The Deichmann Square Lighting Design
The landscape square architecture design which is located at Ben-Gurion University in Be’er Sheva, Israel is completed designed by the Chyutin Architects. This project and the Negev Gallery constitute a link between Ben-Gurion University campus and the city of Be’er Sheva. This square project is serves as an entrance gate to the western side of the campus. This project is surrounded by the existing buildings and the future Negev Gallery. It is offers an outdoor space for the cultural and the social activities for the students and for the city population.
The elongated structure of the gallery which is facing both the city and the campus is border the square project. Which is towards the city, the gallery’s continuous facade which is 160 meters in length is unifies the heterogeneous appearance of the existing buildings behind the gallery into a cohesive urban unit. A sculpture garden which is creating a green edge to the campuses accompanies the city facade. The two story high monolithic body of exposed concrete emerges from lawny topography of the northern part of the campus and hovers above an entrance courtyard in the southern part, where it is appears to be leaping towards the urban space.
The museology faculty, workshops, exhibition spaces and the auditorium which is contributing to the outdoor activities on Deichmann Square are hosted by the gallery. The preferred solution is to allocate the limited areas for the vegetation, since the square is designated to accommodate the intensive congregation of youth and the students. To accentuate the common features thing, the design of the square with the various elements of the exposed concrete is connects the surrounding building both physically and visually. This square project is appears as a carpet of the integrated strips of the concrete paving, vegetation and lighting with the concrete benches and the trees which is scattered randomly. The strips of the vegetation are consisting of lawn, Equisetopsida and the seasonal plant.
