Introduction
The Fogo Island is lies in the outside of the Newfoundland, Canada. This location is a home where the gentle and the independent people have lived for the centuries between the wind and the waves in the pursuit of the fish. The Fogo Islanders are live in the untamed landscape of the North Atlantic. The people are subtle and unpretentious yet have seen their traditional way of the life by threatened by the forces which is argued beyond their control. Here in the Fogo Island, is the elemental place of the subtle and a biding the beauty; it is a place where the times are not obliterated by the circulation of everything. The Fogos People are inextricably bound to this place where they belong. They are culturally rich and resourceful people who live in the close connection with each other and with their people who have come before.
With the people of Fogo Island, The Shore fast Foundation is works together to find a ways to preserve this special place and culture. They have chosen to find the new path by leading with the arts and want to create a structure which is respect where we’ve come from and dignify this landscape which is so fragile yet and so fearsome. They want the structures which touch the imaginations and help to maintain a connection between the past and the future.
The Long Studio
The concept of the studio itself is based on the transition of the seasons. The studio is organized in a linear form. It is consist of three different spaces. The spring which is marks the entrance to the studio and the beginning of the seasonal activity is represented by an open but covered area. The long summer days on Fogo Island are offers the central portion is left open and it is mostly exposed to be fully immersed in all. To provide an area of the protection and the solitude from the outside environment while still providing a connection to the landscape through a strategically framed view of the dramatic surrounding, the end and the main body of the studio is fully enclosed for it.
The amount of the open wall on the floor space is maximized the long linear structure of this artist studio. The maximum amount of the natural light to flood the space is allowed by the large windows at either end and a skylight on the roof of the studio. The architect have made one of the walls 1 meters in deep to the house storage, toilets and the washbasins, with the doors which is flush to the wall, thus it is avoiding any visual distraction inside the space. At the end towards the sea is found the pillars which are a place for the studios, while the entrance area has a small concrete foundation for anchoring the construction to the landscape. The studios can be placed in almost any place on the island with this type of construction. In addition, this allows for the studios to be pre-fabricated in a local workshop during the winter months, and then placed in the landscape in the spring.
