TMW Technical Museum Building Architecture Design
An interior installation is designed by the Querkraft Architects. This new entrance foyer and shop for the TMW Technical Museum is competed designed in Vienna, Austria. This project was held in 2010 by Querkraft Architects together by the technical museum.
Correspondingly modern level of service is required by a modern museum service. To achieve this purpose, a large space is a must. The older museum buildings are challenged to expand and modernize whilst remaining attached to their existing historical structures. The technical museum was faced precisely this difficulty as it tried to gain more space for a large entrance foyer, a new museum shop and cafe as well as sufficient amenities, cloakroom space and ticketing capacity in the 90s. A steel-glass box is placed in front of the existing historical structure is the architectural solution which is chosen in the 90s. Shortly after the opening in 1999, this solution is proved the problematic on a few levels. As well as less than the optimal visitor circulation, the foyer is dominated by large temperature fluctuations, poor acoustic and the ventilation. A competition is followed in which the architect is managed to convince the 6-person jury with their design.
Basic principle of the new design
The physical building is improved by the creation of the clear master plan and visitor circulation with an accompanying welcoming emotional atmosphere. The multifunctional pieces of the furniture which is made of glass-fiber reinforced plastic and fabric is placed in the middle of their design solution. These which is so called ‘trees’ is provide seating, shade and an acoustic absorption and at night they are serves as illuminate bodies which is fill the room with the white or blue glowing light. This project which is resemble trees and can be perceived as an innuendo to the relationship between the technology and nature, it is formally envelope the steel columns and allow a view through the glass ceiling and on to the historical facade.
Which has to do with the little floor space, the shop is receives the new flexible moveable furnishings for the presentation of the products, aligned to the overall design principle. A definite architectural statement is revealed by the realized design from the Querkraft Architect, which is communicates with the existing structure and at the same time fulfils the functional requirements of a modern museum entrance.
